# Editran/PX monitoring

## Log file

The main log of **Editran/PX** is stored in the plain text file `log.txt`.\
This file can be limited to a configurable maximum size. When the set size is reached, the file rotates automatically and the previous file is renamed as `log<date>.txt`.\
The configuration of the maximum log file size is done through the file `editranpx.dat`, by adding the line:

```
LOGF_MAX = <n>
```

Where `<n>` represents the desired size in **KB**.\
The default maximum size is 1 GB, while the maximum value that can be configured is 2 GB (equivalent to 2097152 KB).

## Syslog notifications

### Linux

On UNIX systems there is a standard and widely used mechanism for sending and storing log messages: the syslog system.\
It works through a daemon that listens for requests, usually over UDP on port 514, and handles messages according to the configured settings, either storing them locally or forwarding them to another destination.\
To allow syslog to be controlled, **Editran/PX** it sends information to the system log or syslog about each connection and disconnection made through it.\
Messages are sent with an error level `LOG_NOTICE`.

### Windows

The Windows operating system does not have syslog functionality; however, there is software designed to collect and store output that may be generated to syslog (for example, Kiwi Enterprises offers the Kiwi Syslog Daemon product at <http://www.kiwisyslog.com/).\\>
From a Windows system we can choose to send syslog to a UNIX system or to a Windows syslog server; to do this, you must edit or create the file `syslog.cfg` in the same directory where it is installed **Editran/PX** and enter the IP address of the destination machine for syslog.\
If you want to obtain this information in a file, you must start **Editran/PX** as a process by running the command:\
`ediproxyth 2> [path and name of log file]`

## Queries from Editran z/OS and iSeries

In **Editran z/OS** and **iSeries** queries can be made from the menu to display the status, the log, or the configuration of **Editran/PX**.

For the functionality to be available, it is necessary that:

* Windows: The service **EditranPX Log** is running.
* Linux: the process **logsrv** is running.

Both on Linux and on Windows, the default listening port is `8120`.\
This port can be changed during installation (on Windows systems) or at any other time by creating or editing the file `logsrv.cfg` within the installation path of **Editran/PX**.\
This is a text file that must include a line with the following structure:

```
PUERTO=7120
```

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.editran.onesait.com/documentacion-editran/px-5.2.1-en/monitoring/monitorizacion.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
