# Windows installation

## Requirements

To ensure the system works correctly **Editran/PX**, the installation environment must meet the following requirements:

* Perform the installation using an account with administrator privileges and editing permissions in the Windows registry.
* If you want to use the graphical interface of [configuration](/documentacion-editran/px-5.2.1-en/configuration/configuracion.md) of Editran/PX, Java 21 or higher must be installed on the computer.

## Installer

To carry out the installation, you must run the file `EditranPX‑52.1.x‑windows.exe`. This will start the installation wizard.

### Installation directory

The first window, after the installer's welcome screen, allows us to choose the installation path for the product **Editran/PX**.

### Configuration

The next installer screen allows you to define the basic proxy configuration parameters.\
By checking the checkbox **Configure proxy**, the IP and listening port of the Editran/PX service and also the IP and listening port of the Editran server can be edited. If the configuration option is not checked, the proxy must be configured before it is started.

### Monitoring

Later, it will be possible to install the service for querying the product activity.\
By checking or unchecking the installation option, an edit box is enabled or disabled where the listening port for querying the log can be modified.

### Summary

Next, a summary screen of the installation is shown.\
The chosen destination path for the installation and the quick configuration selected for the Editran/PX product are indicated in case the proxy quick configuration option was checked.\
At any time during the installation, you can go back to modify any of the parameters before starting the installation file copy.

## Windows services

By default, the product creates the service **EditranPX**.\
Additionally, if the corresponding option is selected during the installation process, the service **EditranPX Log**.

## License

Once installation is complete, you must request a [license file](/documentacion-editran/px-5.2.1-en/installation/licencia.md).

## Security

Editran/PX is an application that acts as a gateway and does not process or collect the contents of the files transmitted between Editran applications.\
However, to reduce operational risks, it is recommended to protect the local resources generated by the application (configuration, binaries and logs) and apply good system administration practices.

### Deployment security

1. Any access control to the listening ports must be implemented on the machine hosting Editran/PX and on the associated network security elements.
2. Any published listening port must have explicit source filtering rules and a default-deny policy for unauthorized sources.
3. When the deployment is carried out in a dedicated DMZ, there must be a firewall in front of Editran/PX to filter and control incoming traffic.
4. The publication of Editran/PX listening ports must be carried out in accordance with the organization's security policies.

### Secure operation

The access control proposed for the product's installation folder is based on user permissions and is explained in the following steps:

1. It is recommended to create a dedicated account for operating Editran/PX (for example, `editran`), different from the accounts with system administration privileges. If a dedicated account is not created, the account used to operate Editran/PX must meet the same security conditions defined in this section.
2. It is recommended that this user have only the minimum necessary permissions: read and execute on binaries, write permissions only on the files and folders essential for operation, and permissions to start and stop only the Editran/PX services.
3. Once the Editran/PX product is installed, the permissions on the Editran/PX folder must be modified to restrict access. While on the folder, choose the option **Properties** and select the tab **Security** in the window that appears. In this tab, the current permissions of the folder can be seen and, when clicking the **Edit**button, a new window similar to the previous one will open, allowing users to be added and removed, as well as specific permissions to be configured for each user.

   > ℹ️ *Note:* An example configuration would be the one shown in the image: authorize only the necessary users and groups, applying the principle of least privilege.

   ![user configuration](https://944169240-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F6Bgxolt1oQVu07Im3iZJ%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-abe79790a69c6daffa45fb67b866bf792b2f0739%2F20_instalacion_propiedades.png?alt=media)
4. Editran/PX binaries are installed by default with the "read-only" attribute; it is recommended to keep this attribute as an additional measure and complement their protection with appropriate NTFS permissions.
5. The product installs the Editran/PX service and, optionally, Editran/PX Log. The installed services are configured by default to log on as Local System. Once the permissions have been changed, their properties must be modified so that they start with the user's account that has permissions on the Editran/PX installation folder. This account must also have the right to log on as a service.
6. It is recommended that the user who starts the Editran/PX service does not have local Administrator privileges. Installation, update, and system configuration change tasks must be performed with a different administrative account. Failure to comply with this recommendation may result in a security breach.
7. Windows and Java must be kept up to date with the security patches recommended by their manufacturers, within the maintenance cycles defined by the organization.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.editran.onesait.com/documentacion-editran/px-5.2.1-en/installation/windows_instalacion.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
