# What's New in 5.3

This document indicates the functions added to Editran in the version change so that they can serve as help and warning to users at the time of migration.

## Discontinued functionality

### Editran Protocol

Compatibility with Editran is removed **V4.1**

### Cryptographic version 2.2

To avoid the most vulnerable encryption cases, Editran 5.3 removes cryptographic version 2.2. The use of 3DES (with triple key) associated with higher cryptography versions is still allowed.

### Increase presentation number option

This option specified whether the presentation number and, therefore, the exchange session number, should be increased or not. It is removed because it was not used.

## New features

### Download acknowledgment

It is possible to configure a download acknowledgment on sending and to set a maximum waiting timeout.

## Incidents and improvements v5.3.2 (June 2026)

* **ODEE-5779 Hostid identifies Microsoft Windows 11 Enterprise multi-session as Windows Server 2025**

Microsoft Windows 11 Enterprise multi-session is based on server components. As a result, Editran incorrectly classifies Windows 11 Enterprise multi-session as Windows Server 2025.

* **ODEE-5780 Migration to OpenSSL 3.5**

Migration to OpenSSL 3.5 LTS.

* **ODEE-5783 Migration of the license service to Java 21**

The license service is migrated to Java 21.

* **ODEE-5967 New Editran installer for Red Hat 9**

A new Editran installer is developed for Red Hat 9.

* **ODEE-6058 Overflow of clock() in Windows causes failure in SDL timers and connection retries**

SDL timers stop working properly because the expiration conditions are not met and the completion signals are not generated, which prevents, among other effects, the execution of connection retries

* **ODEE-6067 EDItranCript.jar must obtain the location of ckds.des from the Editran installation**

The EDItranCript.jar tool must look for the path of the ckds.des file within the Editran installation.

* **ODEE-6070 EDitranCript.jar migration to Java 21**

Migration of the EDitranCript.jar tool to Java 21.

* **ODEE-6076 The editrancript\_EnlaceC.dll library does not access the registry correctly**

Windows registry access in the library is corrected.

* **ODEE-6069 Microsoft Visual C++ v14 Redistributable (x86) - 14.51.36231**

The product distribution includes the Microsoft Visual C++ v14 Redistributable (x86) - 14.51.36231 redistributables.

* **ODEE-6077 Inclusion of the licencia.sh script**

The script creates the file hostid\_dd-mm-yyyy.txt in the \<home\_editran>/bin directory with the version data, the hostid identifier, and the license data.

## Incidents and improvements v5.3.1 (November 2025)

* **ODEM-1300 Does not validate the proxy feature in menup**

Before allowing the user to enable the “proxy” option, the system must verify that the license includes that functionality.

* **ODEM-1306 The EDItran script starts the license service without having a license file**

On Linux, it must be checked that the license file exists before starting the license server.

* **ODEM-1322 Incorrect conversion table parameter in receptions**

In reception, the changes indicated in the local character conversion table were not being applied.

* **ODEM-1326 ediperfi and igaperfi commands give an error for release 1**

The text dump of the profiles did not work for version 5.3.1.

* **ODEM-1336 Error calculating password in checkgc**

The password calculation in the checkgc module had a memory leak.

* **ODEM-1342 Error deleting the physical file of a remote key**

Before deleting a remote key associated with a local code, the system must check that the key is not referenced by other local codes.

* **ODEM-1343 The TELEGC session/presentation is created with remote version 5.3**

TELEGC sessions/presentations were created by default with remote version 5.3.

* **ODEM-1352 Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 (x86) - 14.44.35211 Redistributables**

The product distribution includes the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 (x86) - 14.44.35211 redistributables

## Incidents and improvements v5.3.0 (May 2025)

* **ODEM-974 EditranCript.jar**

Review of the distribution of the EditranCript.jar utility and its dependencies.

* **ODEM-1059 Backup of log files when Editran starts**

When Editran starts, a backup of certain log files is made in the log/backup folder.

* **ODEM-1080 Remove v4.1 compatibility**

Compatibility with protocol version 4.1 is removed.

* **ODEM-1109 Remove cryptography 2.2**

Cryptography 2.2 is removed from the encryption options. The migration process will report if profiles with cryptography 2.2 are detected so they can be adapted.

* **ODEM-1141 Remove increase presentation number**

The functionality to increase the session/presentation number is removed.

* **ODEM-1144 Improve migration of editran/gc keys**

The migration process now includes review of the private keys of Editran/GC.

* **ODEM-1151 Query of the buffer status locally and remotely**

Review of the query options for the sending and receiving buffer status from the user interface. Fields that had no information are removed.

* **ODEM-1180 download acknowledgment refinement**

A single, simplified functionality is redefined to set up a download acknowledgment mechanism in Editran. In general terms, the sender can configure the Presentation with the "Request Acknowledgment" parameter set to "Yes", so that, on each send, the remote is informed that it must notify the completion of the download. The sender will remain in transmitting state until the response is received or until a maximum waiting time is exceeded.

* **ODEM-1183 Remove the Character Set field from the Editran/G profile**

In versions earlier than 5.0, it was necessary to configure the alphabet of the remote entity in its data. From version 5.0 onward, it is the sender that notifies the alphabet it uses in the CSB header, and the receiver adapts.

* **ODEM-1196 Introsec with option to generate random keys**

An option is added to the introsec command to generate random keys.

* **ODEM-1209 Error when creating a presentation**

In the Windows menu, an incorrect behavior occurred when creating, by copy, a presentation whose name was a substring of an already existing presentation.

* **ODEM-1210 new profile deactivation options in the modiperfi command**

The modiperfi command now includes the ability to deactivate profiles based on a local code and/or a remote code.

* **ODEM-1214 Error when migrating profiles with double hyphen in key labels**

An error detected during migration of profiles with DES 3.0 cryptography and authentication that have a double hyphen in the key label is resolved.

* **ODEM-1220 Licencia.bat must use PowerShell instead of wmic**

The wmic tool is being discontinued in Windows. The licencia.bat script is modified to use PowerShell instead of wmic when obtaining the date variable.

* **ODEM-1224 Refresh window when typing an existing session**

In the Windows menu, when creating a session by copy, if an existing session was typed, the window was not updated with the data for that session.

* **ODEM-1279 Remove DES and TD2 confidentiality**

Compatibility with DES and TD2 confidentiality (Triple DES with double key) is removed.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.editran.onesait.com/documentacion-editran/open-v5.3-en/novedades.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
