# Syslog on Windows systems

The Windows operating system does not have syslog functionality; however, there is a lot of software created to be able to collect and store the output that can be generated to syslog (for example the company *haneWin* has a free syslog server at <http://www.hanewin.net/syslog-e.htm> or the company *Kiwi Enterprises* has the product *Kiwi Syslog Daemon* also free at <http://www.kiwisyslog.com/syslog-info.php>).

From a Windows system we can decide to send the syslog to a UNIX system or to a Windows syslog server; for this, the syslog.cfg file must be edited or created in the same directory where EDItranPX is installed, and the IP address of the destination machine for the syslog must be written.

If this information is to be obtained in a file, editran/Proxy will be started as a process and the command will be executed

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.editran.onesait.com/documentacion-editran/ibm-editran-v5.3-iseries-en/proxy/onesait-editran-proxy-on-unix-and-windows/syslog-notifications/syslog-on-windows-systems.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
