# Inquiry of the certificates' DNs

Editran/FF uses the certificate DN to control remote signers, so the DNs of the certificates with which files are signed must be provided to remote users. To do this, the obten\_dn.sh script is used, which writes the DNs to a file preceded by the sequence ‘\* ‘.

Displays certificates and exports their DN to a file.

Option 1: Public-key certificates

Select 1 when you want to obtain the DN of a certificate that contains the private key. In that case, proceed as follows.

We show an example: (password: password)

<figure><img src="https://2621858476-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F80nfuaOloGPZthms7LSJ%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-0d15bc996549760c7a24075c80484609616fbc52%2Fimage%20(126).png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If no storage is specified, it will be shown on screen

<figure><img src="https://2621858476-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F80nfuaOloGPZthms7LSJ%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-1de2271e0af4ed00cce9efb0faa6c0f33f752113%2Fimage%20(127).png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Choosing option 2 - Repeat the operation with different data: will allow us to change the file containing the certificate; with option 3, it returns to the initial selection.

Option 2 – Public-key certificates

To obtain the DN of a certificate's public key or to list the CAs of a truststore, option 2 of the initial menu is used.

If none is entered:

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.editran.onesait.com/documentacion-editran/ibm-editran-v5.3-iseries-en/editran-ff/configuration-of-editran-xades/inquiry-of-the-certificates-dns.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
