# Administration and Operation

Editran transmits files, with a specified structure, from a local endpoint to a remote one. These files are called send and receive buffers.

To obtain send buffers from conventional application files and, conversely, to obtain these application files from receive buffers, it is necessary to use upload and download programs which, together, can be referred to as an application interface.

These interfaces can vary greatly in functionality and capabilities, ranging from handling a specific, defined file to handling any type of file. In this last case, there would be a generic application interface.

Editran version 5.3 has been developed with the dual objective of increasing the functionality of existing interfaces, and at the same time being compatible with them (from version 5.0), so that an entity that installs Editran V-5.3 will be able to:

Exchange data with entities that have Editran V5.0, V5.1, V5.2, and V5.3

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.editran.onesait.com/documentacion-editran/ibm-editran-v5.3-ims-en/operacion.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
