# Appendix B. Exception procedure

The exception procedure is executed by editran with an A7I message when an incident occurs that prevents a complete send or receive operation from being carried out. For it to be generated, it is necessary that sending/receiving was in progress or intended. The exception procedure is started with a parm Xzzz, where X indicates whether the problem is in transmission or reception, and zzz indicates the reference code of the problem. If sending and receiving were taking place simultaneously, in some cases 2 A7I messages are generated (one Exxx and another Rxxx). Once the A7I code has been received, the following must be done:

* Inform the Installation Operator of the incident, with the corresponding comment. In non-retryable cases, it is likely that you will have to contact the remote operator to resolve the situation.
* Depending on the Reference Code of the A7I message, you can retry the transmission or reception of the session involved. There is a subset of Reference Codes for which you should not retry unless the error is fixed (to avoid the risk of a loop). The other codes can be retried to complete the full transmission, although you should retry a finite number of times, since it is always possible that an unexpected error will lead to a loop situation.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.editran.onesait.com/documentacion-editran/ibm-editran-v5.3-cics-en/utilities-and-codes/appendix-b.-exception-procedure.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
