# Manual start-stop of the Listener-CICS TCP/IP

Note: The fact that the LISTENER is not started does not prevent outgoing calls and traffic to remote systems via those calls. To start the listener or clients, the sockets for CICS must be started.

1. To start, the transid EZAO is invoked using the sequence EZAO start (it will show us the following menu:

```
EZAO,START
Enter one of the following
CICS         ===>                      Enter Yes|No
LISTENER     ===>                      Enter Yes|No
```

YES is entered in LISTENER and a new menu appears:

```
EZAO,START,LISTENER
 APPLID=      ===> BMCIDATR             APPLID of CICS
 LISTENER     ===>                      Enter Name of Listener
```

We will enter in LISTENER the name of the transid that will act as such; in this case, the one provided by IBM and defined in the configuration file so that it handles port 7777 (ZTBA), and we will press ENTER, so that from that moment it will already be started (showing the following menu):

```
EZAO,START,LISTENER(ZTBA)
 APPLID=      ===> BMCIDATR             APPLID of CICS
 LISTENER     ===> ZTBA                 Enter Name of Listener
CICS Sockets Interface Listener ZTBA is Started        APPLID = BMCIDATR
```

Note: If CICS has not been started or if we bring it down using EZAO stop, the LISTENERs will fail or will not be allowed to start.

2. To stop (only CICS can be stopped), the transid EZAO is invoked using the sequence EZAO stop. This command can also stop a non-editran listener. We will enter the same data that we entered previously.

All listeners can also be started by invoking ZTBZ (see the startup PLT chapter if it was called another way), directly or through EZAO.

Listeners can also be started by setting immed = yes, and in the PLT only starting the sockets to CICS.

It is also allowed in the transmission operator's network restart option to activate one or all listeners and to stop a specific listener.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.editran.onesait.com/documentacion-editran/ibm-editran-v5.3-cics-en/tcp/manual-start-stop-of-the-listener-cics-tcp-ip.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
