# Definition of files in CICS

Below are listed the Profile, Log, and editran Trace files, with the appropriate parameters for CEDA.

ℹ️ It has been detected that if high string, databuffer, and indexbuffer values are defined (simultaneous accesses), sometimes the information is not fully updated in the files until some time later; that is, the information is not always on disk, so if we do a repro of the trace, for example, the appropriate records might not appear. Writes to trace, profile, and log should also not be simultaneous. In the case of profiles this is obvious, but in the case of trace and log, it is because there is a control record which must be updated before the data records. Disk updates are automatic in the case of closing and opening the file to CICS, which is precisely what is done with the buffers when events are notified from batch processes to CICS. In the case of matrix buffers, therefore, the normal situation will be to have a greater number of simultaneous accesses.

The files to define are (see FCTCEDA\* members):

* Statistics: ZTBEFPE, ZTBEFAL, ZTBEFMP, ZTBEFMT, ZTBEFMH.
* EDITRAN/G: ZTBGFLO, ZTBGFES, ZTBGFPE.
* EDITRAN/P: ZTBPFLO, ZTBPFTR, ZTBPFPE.
* Key management: ZTBPFGC.
* Buffers. As many Buffer files as necessary will have to be defined.

## Creation of VSAM files

Below are some examples of the definition of all the VSAM files used by editran:

* Definition of the editran/P Profiles file (ZTBPFPE): See JCL ZTBPJIPE
* Definition of the editran/P Log file (ZTBPFLO): See JCL ZTBPJILO
* Definition of the editran/P Trace file (ZTBPFTR): See JCL ZTBPJITR
* Definition of the editran/P and G exchange key management file (ZTBPFGC): See JCL ZTBPJIGC
* Definition of the editran/G Profiles file (ZTBGFPER): See JCL ZTBGJIPE
* Definition of the editran/G Log file (ZTBGFLOG): See JCL ZTBGJILO
* Definition of the editran/G States file (ZTBGFEST): See JCL ZTBPJIES
* Buffer files (there are several types):
  * Specific Buffer (shr 2 3). This file is created automatically by the Application Interface in the pre-issue/receipt stage. See JCL ZTBPJITE.
    * RECORDS(): The number of records will be specified in the presentation session of the application interface (editran) and the secondary will be set to one quarter of the primary.
    * RECORDSIZE(): The record length will be the transmission length used and specified in the editran transmission session plus the key (36). E.g. 252+36=276 or 4050+36=4074.
  * Matrix Buffer (shr 3 3). This file must be created physically. See JCL ZTBPJITM.
    * RECORDS(): The number of records will be specified by the administrator according to the volume of transmissions carried out. If it does not exist, editran defines it, taking as the basis for file space allocation the sum of the number of records assigned to each of the transmission sessions associated with the presentation session.
    * RECORDSIZE(): The record length will be the transmission length used and specified in the editran transmission session plus the key (36). E.g. 252+36=276 or 4050+36=4074.
  * The Buffers of the rest of the types must be physically defined before starting the editran processes. For EXCI, see JCL ZTBPJITD.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.editran.onesait.com/documentacion-editran/ibm-editran-v5.3-cics-en/installation/definition-of-files-in-cics.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
