# Electronic Signature

Editran/FF is an application that encompasses all the operations that require the signing and signature verification of files before and after they are exchanged between two endpoints. To do this, it establishes a relationship between the files to be signed and the signing users, ensuring that all signatures have been completed at the sending endpoint, as well as that the required signatures have been received at the receiving endpoint.

Basically, the system is made up of the following elements:

* Application: presentation session in FF that serves to group a set of files to be exchanged with a given destination (Editran remote). It can be Issuance if used to handle files to be sent, or Reception if used to handle received files.
* User: element associated with a natural person who is identified in the system by means of a digital certificate. Local Users correspond to the people who can log in to editran/FF and are the signers of the files to be sent. Remote Users correspond to people who belong to the entity from which files are received accompanied by the signatures generated by those Remote Users.

A relationship is established between each Application and the Users who must sign those files, both in issuance and in reception, specifying, through the rules that determine the parameters/attributes of those elements and the operating rules to be followed in each case.

The functionality provided by Editran/FF distributes its execution between z/OS MVS – CICS, the graphical interface, procedures, and z/OS UNIX (USS), where the Java server responsible for performing and verifying file signatures is located (EditranSignatureServices).

The signature modes handled by this application are XAdES and PKCS#7.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.editran.onesait.com/documentacion-editran/ibm-editran-v5.3-cics-en/electronic-signature.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
