# Linux setup

This guide will help you with the steps required to run the application for the first time **Editran Connect** after having been correctly installed on a Linux system.

***

## Prerequisites

* The installation has completed without errors and **Editran Connect** is correctly installed.
* The necessary services are correctly installed. You can verify it by running:

```bash
sudo systemctl list-unit-files --type=service | grep editran
```

* Verify by running:

```bash
  sudo systemctl list-units --type=service | grep editran
```

that the services required for the initial execution of **Editran Connect** are running:

* Editran Connect Base
* Editran Connect Data
* Editran Connect Server
* Editran Connect Sign

***

## Step 1: License

> ⚠️ Skip this step if you already have a valid license file.

**Editran Connect** requires a specific license for each computer depending on a *HostID* (unique code of each machine where Editran is installed).

1. Generate the file with the *HostID*. You can do it by running:

   ```bash
   sudo ./hostid -a > hostid.txt
   ```

   from the command line in the directory `/core/bin` of the installation of **Editran Connect**.
2. You must send the generated file in an email to the support team so they can generate your personalized license.
3. When the support team has the new generated license, you will receive an email with an attachment that you must download.
4. It is the responsibility of the administrator of **Editran Connect** to protect this file so that it cannot be modified, as that would cause the system to stop working.

***

## Step 2: Copy the license file

> ⚠️ Skip this step if you already specified the license file during installation.

1. The file must be copied into the folder `/core/bin/SL` of the installation of **Editran Connect**, with the name `license.dat`. If it does not exist, the system will not work correctly.
2. Restart the service *Editran License Service* by running the following:

   ```bash
   sudo systemctl restart editran.sl.service
   ```

   If it is not restarted, the service will not work correctly.

***

## Step 3: Start

Next, you can start the application in the following ways:

* Open a web browser and enter the URL `https://localhost:443/` or `https://<your_domain>:443/`.
* If this is your first time accessing it, the browser may warn you about an invalid certificate. Accept the certificate to continue.

***

## Step 4: Application registration

Once the application has started, a screen will be shown for you to enter the application registration details:

![Registration details](https://1190478111-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzO0mk2eo5LONjICfqrP8%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-9142e583c1feeb06bee023d5164dd6c62fd0e1f1%2Fdatos_registro.png?alt=media)

* **Name**: User's first name.
* **Surnames**: User's last names.
* **Company**: Company name.
* **NIF**: User's Tax ID (optional).

Click on **Continue** to continue with the registration.

***

## Step 5: License validation

On this screen, you must enter the activation code provided by the support team.

![License validation](https://1190478111-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzO0mk2eo5LONjICfqrP8%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-205baf7d4b7acf3c715948207ef44a71a8acd2c3%2Fvalidacion_licencia.png?alt=media)

Click on **Verify** to check the activation code. If the code is not correct, the license file does not exist or is not valid, an error message will be displayed. In this case, check that the license file is valid and has been copied into the folder `\core\bin\SL`, and also check that the service *Editran License Service* is running.

***

## Step 6: Access details

Once the license has been validated, you will be asked to enter the access credentials of the first user of the application. This user will have full access to all the features of **Editran Connect**.

![Access details](https://1190478111-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzO0mk2eo5LONjICfqrP8%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-44cf4a63aee062c6cc55a9c01fc589aaf807b5c9%2Fdatos_de_acceso.png?alt=media)

* **Email**: User's email address used to access the application.
* **Password**: User's password. It must contain at least 6 characters, one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number, and one special character.
* **Repeat password**: Repeat the password to confirm it.

Click on **Finish** to finish registration. If the password does not meet the requirements, an error message will be displayed. In this case, check that the password meets the established requirements.

***

## Step 7: Entering the application

Next, you will be shown a login screen for the application. Enter the email address and password of the user you just created.

![Sign in](https://1190478111-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzO0mk2eo5LONjICfqrP8%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-af602fb0d6dd72c109eb7856ae284d8c33d62448%2Finicio_de_sesion.png?alt=media)

* **Email**: User's email address.
* **Password**: User's password.
* **Remember me**: Check this option if you want the application to remember your password for future logins.

Click on **Log On** to access the application.

***

## Step 8: Application configuration. IP address

Once you have accessed the application, a screen will be shown for you to enter the local configuration data, specifically the IP address. This configuration is necessary for the application to work correctly.

![Application configuration. IP address](https://1190478111-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzO0mk2eo5LONjICfqrP8%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-2f3bd9d7a25d403a3e2143ef8cdf545359194a95%2Fconfiguracion_aplicacion_direccion_ip.png?alt=media)

This data can be modified through the corresponding option within the *Local settings* application menu.

1. Enter the local IP address and port.
2. Click on **Save** to save the configuration data.

***

## Step 9: Application configuration. Local code

Finally, you must configure the application's local code. To do this, you must access the option *Local codes* of the *Local settings* application menu. This configuration is necessary for the application to work correctly.

![Application configuration. Local code](https://1190478111-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzO0mk2eo5LONjICfqrP8%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-376dcf1dc7b583bac97f4c06bfe5859502279027%2Fconfiguracion_aplicacion_codigo_local.png?alt=media)

1. Click on **New local code** to create a new local code.
2. Enter the local code and its description.

## Troubleshooting

#### 1. The application does not start

If the application does not start, check the following:

* **Services**: Make sure that the services required for the initial execution of **Editran Connect** are correctly installed and running. You can verify it by running:

```bash
 sudo systemctl list-units --type=service | grep editran
```

For more information about the error, check the installation log file (log).

#### 2. The services do not start

If the services do not start, check the following:

* **User permissions**: Check that the user starting the services has the necessary permissions.
* **Dependencies**: Make sure all required services are running. For example, the service *Editran Connect Data* must be started before starting the service *Editran Connect Base*.
* **Port in use**: Confirm that port 443 *(Editran Connect Server)* or 5432 *(Editran Connect Data)* is not being used by another service. You can use tools such as `netstat` to check the ports in use.
* **Firewall**: Check that there is no firewall blocking the ports used by the services.
* **Database configuration**: Check that the database is correctly configured and accessible. Make sure the access credentials are correct and that the database server is running.
* **Software conflicts**: Make sure there are no other programs or services conflicting with the services of **Editran Connect**. Check that the application **Editran Core Connect** is uninstalled.
* **License**: Verify that the license file (`license.dat`) is present and valid. This implies that the services *Editran License Service* and *Editran Connect Base* will not start.
* **Local environment**: The service *Editran Connect Base* will not start until a local environment, IP address, and local code have been configured.

For more details about possible errors, check the log files.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.editran.onesait.com/documentacion-editran/connect-v3.1-en/instalacion/linux_inicio.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
