# Installation FAQ

## General

### Why are the minimum system requirements higher than in previous versions of Editran?

Editran Connect has evolved significantly in this new version, incorporating improvements both in its architecture and in its user experience. As part of this evolution, new technologies have been adopted that provide greater performance, scalability and security.

Among the main changes are:

* The inclusion of a **built-in web server (nginx)**.
* The use of a **proprietary database engine (PostgreSQL)** distributed with the installer.
* A more complete environment for **web management** and backend services.

These components help simplify deployment and improve interoperability, but they also **increase the minimum hardware requirements** compared to earlier, lighter or monolithic versions.

> 📌 **Important**: While the new requirements may seem high, they are aligned with current technologies and allow for a more homogeneous and maintainable installation in modern enterprise environments.

## Linux

### Why are there two different Editran CoreConnect installers on Linux?

Editran CoreConnect depends on the version of the **OpenSSL** library installed on the operating system.

* On distributions such as **Red Hat/CentOS 7 and 8**, as well as many Ubuntu LTS versions prior to 22.04, **OpenSSL 1.1**.
* Starting from **Red Hat 9**, **AlmaLinux 9**, **Rocky Linux 9** and some recent versions of other distributions, the system comes with **OpenSSL 3.0**.

Since OpenSSL versions are not binary-compatible with each other, there are **two specific installers** for Editran CoreConnect, each compiled to work with the corresponding version of the library:

* Installer for systems with **OpenSSL 1.1**
* Installer for systems with **OpenSSL 3.0**

👉 **Important**: Before starting the installation, check which OpenSSL version your operating system uses with the following command:

```bash
openssl version
```

### Why is Red Hat Linux officially the only supported distribution for Linux? **Red Hat Linux**?

Although the development, support and quality teams test Editran Connect on various Linux distributions during the development cycle, the **final validation and certification tests** are performed exclusively on specific versions of **Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)**.

This ensures full compatibility and more precise technical support in critical production environments, where stability and compliance with corporate policies are prioritized.

Currently, **Red Hat** is the only distribution certified as *officially supported*. We are working on formal validation of other distributions, and any changes in this regard will be communicated through this portal.

> ℹ️ **Recommendation:** While you can run Editran Connect on other Linux environments, some features or integrations may not have been fully verified. For production environments, we recommend using Red Hat.

## Windows

### Where is the Editran Connect installation log?

The installation logs are located in the path `%LOCALAPPDATA%/Temp`. Inside the folder, to identify the Editran logs you can search for installBuilder\_installer; based on the installation time you will be able to locate Editran's logs

if you open it you will be able to see the details of the data entered in the installer and the process

### Why doesn't Editran Connect 2.1.x support Windows Server 2016 if it is still supported by Microsoft?

In addition to installing the product, Editran Connect installs a series of components that it relies on to be deployed. This version is being distributed with PostgreSQL 16.x and nginx 1.22.0. Unfortunately, currently PostgreSQL 16 offers installers for Windows 2016 Server. [more information here](https://www.postgresql.org/download/windows/)

### Why doesn't Editran Connect 2.1.x support Windows Server 2016, if it is still supported by Microsoft?

Although **Windows Server 2016** continues to receive official support from Microsoft, version 2.1.x of **Editran Connect** includes additional components whose compatibility depends on third parties.

Specifically, this version of the product is distributed together with:

* **PostgreSQL 16.x** as the database engine
* **nginx 1.22.0** as the embedded web server

Currently, **PostgreSQL 16 does not offer installers compatible with Windows Server 2016**, which prevents guaranteeing a complete and functional installation of Editran Connect in that environment.

🔗 You can find more information on the [official PostgreSQL downloads page](https://www.postgresql.org/download/windows/).

> ℹ️ **Recommendation**: To ensure a successful installation with full support, it is recommended to use **Windows Server 2019 or later**.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.editran.onesait.com/documentacion-editran/connect-v2.1-en/instalacion/faq-instalacion.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
