# Deployment on Windows

This guide will help you with the steps needed to run the application for the first time **Editran Connect** after it has been correctly installed on a Windows system.

***

> ⚠️ About this process: if you are coming from Connect 2.1.x versions or earlier Connect versions, the migration process requires an update to regenerate the core .cfg files. You can continue the process in [Migration](/documentacion-editran/connect-3.2-en/migracion/clasico-a-connect.md).

## Prerequisites

* The installation has completed without errors and **Editran Connect** is correctly installed. You can verify it from the Windows Control Panel.
* The necessary services are correctly installed. You can verify it from the Windows Services panel.
* Check, from the Windows Services panel, that the services required for the initial execution of **Editran Connect** are running:
  * Editran Connect Base
  * Editran Connect Data
  * Editran Connect Server
  * Editran Connect Sign

***

## Step 1: License

> ⚠️ Skip this step if you already have a valid license file.

**Editran Connect** requires a specific license for each computer to function, depending on a *HostID* (unique code for each machine where Editran is installed).

1. Generate the file with the *HostID*. You can do it in either of the following two ways:
   * Running the file `license.bat` from the command line, and which is located in the folder `\core\bin` of the installation of **Editran Connect**.
   * Running the shortcut *License* that is found in the application programs group, within the Start menu, and that was created during installation.

     ![Programs group](https://1386330368-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2jqgE5yyM3S58JKHROiz%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-3a36014c8a3cd28660417440bcec8c83ad36e521%2Fgrupo_de_programas.png?alt=media)
2. You must send the generated file in an email to the support team so they can generate your personalized license.
3. When the support team has the new generated license, you will receive an email with an attachment that you must download.
4. It is the responsibility of the administrator of **Editran Connect** to protect this file so that it cannot be modified, as that would cause the system to stop working.

***

## Step 2: Copy the license file

> ⚠️ Skip this step if you already specified the license file during installation.

1. The file must be copied into the folder `\core\bin\SL` of the installation of **Editran Connect**, with the name `licencia.dat`. If it does not exist, the system will not work correctly.
2. Restart the service *Editran License Service* from the Windows Services panel (`Win + R` → `services.msc` → Enter). If it is not restarted, the service will not work correctly.

## Step 3: Start

Next, you can start the application in the following ways:

* Open a web browser and enter the URL `https://localhost:443/` or `https://<your_domain>:443/`.
* Or, run the shortcut *Editran Connect Web* that is found in the application programs group, within the Start menu, and that was created during installation.
* If this is the first time you access it, the browser may warn you about an invalid certificate. Accept the certificate to continue.

If you have the graphical interface installed:

* Run the shortcut *Editran Connect* located in the application programs group, within the Start menu.4
* You can also use the shortcut that was created on the desktop during installation.

## Troubleshooting

### 1. The application does not start

If the application does not start, check the following:

* **Services**: Make sure that the services required for the initial execution of **Editran Connect** are correctly installed and running. You can verify this from the Windows Services panel.

For more information about the error, consult the installation log file.

### 2. The services do not start

If the services do not start, check the following:

* **User permissions**: Verify that the user starting the services has the necessary permissions.
* **Dependencies**: Make sure that all necessary services are running. For example, the service *Editran Connect Data* must be started before starting the service *Editran Connect Base*.
* **Port in use**: Confirm that port 443 *(Editran Connect Server)* or 5432 *(Editran Connect Data)* is not being used by another service. You can use tools such as `netstat` to check the ports in use.
* **Firewall**: Check that the Windows Firewall or any other third-party firewall is not blocking the ports used by the services.
* **Database configuration**: Verify that the database is correctly configured and accessible. Make sure that the access credentials are correct and that the database server is running.
* **Software dependencies**: Verify that the *Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable packages* are correctly installed.
* **Software conflicts**: Make sure that there are no other programs or services conflicting with **Editran Connect**. Check that the application **Editran Core Connect** is uninstalled.
* **License**: Verify that the license file (`licencia.dat`) is present and valid. This means that the services *Editran License Service* and *Editran Connect Base* will not start.
* **Local environment**: The service *Editran Connect Base* will not start until a local environment, IP address, and local code are configured.

For more details about possible errors, review the log files.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.editran.onesait.com/documentacion-editran/connect-3.2-en/instalacion/windows_inicio.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
